I would consider myself extremely fortunate if I achieve even one-fourth of what he has achieved.”
Shahid says, “I have the greatest love and respect for him.

I have received the advice, love and encouragement from him. His love is completely pure and unconditional.”
As an actor, Shahid believes his father is certainly one of the best we have in the country. “He’s the only actor who creates a new
person each time he appears on-screen,” says Shahid.
“He’s also perhaps one of those few actors who have stuck by their conviction, and always chosen quality over quantity. He has truly done quality cinema, stuff that he has wholeheartedly believed in. All his projects have been high on critical acclaim and appreciation,” Shahid points out.
So, are there any words of wisdom from the Pankaj that have helped Shahid in his career? “He’s always ready to advise and help me whenever I need it. I thoroughly enjoy the long hours of discussion we have on films and world cinema. At times when I have refused to take it, I have repented later,” quips he.
Ask him about being part of his father’s directorial venture for the first time, he says, “There was a time when people asked me why we haven’t done a film together. It was because back then, I was witlessly scared to stand in the same frame as him. I wanted to attain a certain degree of skill before facing the arc-lights with him. I am very happy I’m working in his film. It is an overwhelming feeling to work with such a celebrated actor.”
